Liberty Centennial
Statue of Liberty
Collins Cover Announcement
Statue of Liberty – Topview
For the second variety, I chose both an interesting view and a "role reversal" perspective of Lady Liberty -- looking at her from directly above straight down. It's a role reversal because usually it's the Statue who looks down on the new arrivals and visitors. Now we look down on her. It's interesting because it allows us to view the tiled stonework design that makes up the perpetual resting place of the Statue. We all know what the Statue itself looks like.
Thanks to this hand-painted cachet, COLLINS collectors will now have a more complete picture of this national symbol. In addition to the U.S. stamp canceled with bullseye from Liberty Island, NY/NJ, this cover also has the corresponding French stamp with the Centennial French cancellation.
Summation
Search through all of the cachets created for this special issue and I think the two COLLIS FDCs presented here will stand out with their uniqueness. Statue of Liberty - Park (K1101) has what I'm sure is the smallest of any Liberty Statue on any cachet. It poses in obvious under-statement that it is not the Statue itself but rather what it stands for that we celebrate. Statue of Liberty - Topview (K1102) presents a vertical drop look that I don't think any other cachetmaker captured. In addition to this unusual look at the Statue, the cover features both the U.S. and French Liberty stamps. Two "different" views for your collection. Liberty-Park, Item #K1101 - $7.50; Liberty - Topview, Item #K1102 - $8.00.
