Collins Cover Announcement
JOHN HARVARD
(56-cent Famous American)
This COLLINS is a crisp, clean and sleek looking First Day Cover.
The hand-painted cachet uses the "crimson and white" colors of Harvard as the central theme, and a traditional college pennant stretches from corner to corner. Upon seeing it yourself (and comparing it to other FDCs for this issue) you'll agree that the use of the pennant as the vehicle to present the stamp's subject was definitely the right choice. Above and below, university buildings help to project Harvard's image, tradition and stability as perhaps the finest university in the land.
John Harvard provided resources and books to found the institution in 1636. After getting the stamps in Boston, they were taken to Harvard, Illinois for a perfect unofficial cancel. The cancel is of the killer-bar variety, and it is of quite good quality. A very distinctive, a very "Ivy League type" cover. Item #N1101 - $7.50.
