Dr. White was the founder of the American Heart Association. This COLLINS FDC expands the medical theme by using three other stamps in combo with the First Day of Issue. They are the "Giving Blood", the "Osteopathic Medicine", and the "Physical Fitness" issues. The four stamps used in combination make a nice philatelic item.

After purchasing the new stamps in Washington, D.C., it was off to Indiana and a fine First Day cancellation in Whitestown. This real First Day cancel ties all of the stamps to the cover. As a side, the ink of the cancel is a truer red than the usual magenta, and it matches nicely the drop of blood in the stamp and the heart in the cachet.

As for the hand-painted cachet, it shows an open heart: the chambers, veins, arteries and capillaries. An interesting FDC for Dr. White. Item #P1101 - $7.50
