Marianne Craig Moore - Poet

Collins Cover Announcement

MARIANNE MOORE

A large portion of this American educator and poet's life was spent teaching at an Indian reservation in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The hand-painted cachet puts Marianne back in the classroom. Five Indian boys are attentive as they listen to their teacher's words. The setting should be noted with period dress, furnishings, and accessories including inkwells and straight pens. Traditional schoolroom items such as flag, blackboard, and globe also contribute to the scene. There is even the ever popular apple on the teacher's desk.

The stamp was issued in Brooklyn, New York. After purchasing them there, it was off to Carlisle for the appropriate unofficial (real) First Day postmark.

Do take note of the fine watercolor hand painting on this cover. The colors and shading translate to a realistic visit to a by-gone time. Item #I1701. $8.75.
