Collins Cover Announcement

SEAPLANE - 1914

Transportation Series

One Dollar High Value

A remote lake in the north country is the cachet locale for this hand-painted COLLINS cover. Tree blanketed mountains provide a backdrop and colorful wildflowers bloom in the foreground. Distinctive swamp pinks contrast with the familiar goldenrod. Between the mountains and the flowers, the still waters reflect the hemlocks and pines that ring the shoreline. The use of a powder blue envelope helps to accent the blues of the lake and sky. Into this remote setting roars a single-engine pontoon plane skimming in for a landing. The crimson red plane with whirling propeller is a startling contrast to the quiet of the mountain lake.

The covers were taken to Arizona where the stamps were bought and affixed on First Day of Issue. They were then hand canceled with the Phoenix general mail facility (GMF) postmark. This cancel documents that these FDCs are indeed ones that were serviced on the actual First Day of Issue.

A nice high value item with $1.00 Transportation series stamp, mountain lake hand-painted cachet on blue envelope creating a "different look- and a Phoenix GMF postmark obtained on Day of Issue. Don't miss it. Item #J1701 $9.50.
