Fred's Anecdotal Note
1997 Colorado
This Duck stamp commemorates the 100th Anniversary of the Colorado Department of Wildlife. On the stamp itself is printed "1897 - I997 100 Years" to honor the centennial of the department. The border of the stamp is a nice deep forest green with gold lettering. This surrounds the image area which shows a pair of widgeons flying past a flock of sand hill cranes. The beautiful five-dollar centennial stamp is postmarked at Fort Collins, where the State Wildlife Service is headquartered.
My hand-painted cachet shows a widgeon by a Colorado mountain lake. A pair of bighorn sheep relax nearby on the grassy slope. This is another in my Milford wildlife cachet series of 1996 and 1997. Only 150 covers were produced for this limited edition with serial numbers 6001 to 6150.
