Collins Cover Announcement
FAWN
An alert doe stands in a secluded forest glade under a canopy of leaves with her new baby fawns. The three deer have ventured out from the dense undergrowth evident in the background to feed on the lupines sprouting up from the forest floor. Wobbly legs still make the fawns awkward and vulnerable, and so mother must utilize the senses of sound, sight and smell to warn of any potential danger. With the leaves extending across the entire top width of the cover, it gives the hand-painted cachet an almost three-dimensional appearance. This is an excellent wildlife cachet in the COLLINS tradition.
Washington, D.C. was chosen as the official city of issue by the Postal Service. To my mind, not a very good choice for a wildlife topical. So, after picking up the stamps in Washington, it was up to Fawn Grove, Pennsylvania for a great First Day cancel. A very nice round dater postmark ties a pair of the new stamps to the cover.
This is an attractive wildlife FDC, and I personally recommend it very much. Item #11801. $9.25.
