This year's Cinnaron Teal $7.50 "Duck" First Day Cover is an absolute beauty to behold. The meticulous hand painted cachet art work surpasses any I have seen, and I have seen virtually all of the Duck covers from 1981 to date. For this year's effort, I chose a different route and opted for the picturesque setting of an American craftsman -- the quaint workshop of a decoy woodcarver. With his high-backed chair nulled close to the glowing pot-belly stove, the stoic whittler puts the finishing shaping touches on a new creation. Contented in his familiar surroundings, the "Norman Rockwell type" craftsman focuses his undivided attention on his arduous task.

Displayed on a rear shelf, decoys of various species in different stages of completion add a very colorful background to the cozy room. In the foreground, a prominent, freshly painted life-like Cinnamon Teal provides the perfect link to the stamns. This cachet stands above my previous 1991, 1982, 1983 and 1984 efforts, and I feel that it will most certainly be judged the best 1985 Duck cover overall. As most of you realize, I don't overly toot the horn of "investment potential" that so many of today's cachetmakers seem inclined to do. I'll let recent history speak for itself, tell you straight out that this is probably the finest "Duck" cover that you have yet seen, and strongly suggest that you acquire one for your collection.

In addition to the high value $7.50 Cinnamon Teal Migratory Bird stamp, each cover has a decoy stamp from the recent issue. It was the Decoy stamp theme that suggested to me this year's cachet subject. Both stamps are tied to the cover with a large Washington, D.C. cancel. Folk art in its finest and purest sense is portrayed in this 1985 COLLINS, and I know you will enjoy this FDC as much as any you presently own.

Lot 7 E1001 — 1985 Cinnamon Teal — Collins Duck 7-1-85

This was my fifth Collins Duck. A skilled wood carver works well into the night at his craft. A finished Cinnamon Teal decoy sits on a table. He has started on a new decoy. A vintage pot-bellied stove provides relief from the evening chill. The day of issue postmark is a July 1st large bullseye from Washington, D.C. The postage requirement is met by a 22-cent decoy stamp from the Folk Art miniset of four.
