Diabetes Awareness

November is Diabetes Month

Cover Announcement

In recent years, U.S. starnps have been used to promote awareness of health issues and similar public concerns. The purpose of this stamp is to increase public knowledge of the disease that strikes an estimated six percent of our population. Two important elements associated with the treatment of diabetes are individual testing and continual research. Accordingly, the new stamp has a test tube containing blood to represent the importance of continuing monitoring and testing of diabetes patients and a microscope to symbolize the research efforts that are seeking better treatment and eventually a cure. In my opinion, the interesting design layout and unusual color patterns make this stamp an attractive one.

Wanting to build on the promoting awareness theme of the stamp, I decided to pay tribute to the new "walk for the cure" events that take place in communities large and small throughout our nation. My hand painted cachet features a cross-section of citizens from all walks of life coming together in unity for this important cause. Colors used in the hand painting were carefully chosen and blended to coordinate with those in the new stamp. This cachet portrays something that Americans can be very good at - working together for a common cause. In this case they are "walking for the cure" to promote diabetes awareness. Collins #B3401 - $12.25.
