HONORING VETERANS

Timothy Patrick Collins

As proud parents, Linda and I are delighted to honor a veteran near and dear to us — our son Tim. He is third-generation Air Force — with his grandfather, Fred Sr., serving as a B-17 waist gunner in World War H in the Eighth Air Force and my seeing duty in Vietnam with the 777th Troop Carrier Assault Squadron. Tim served with distinction as a crewmember on the advanced and sophisticated AWACS communications and radar aircraft. During his four-year enlistment, he flew in many regions around the world.

The hand painted cachet pictures Tim in his flight suit. Behind the portrait, an AWACS plane roars into the sky with its distinctive disk-shaped dome suspended above the fuselage. Behind his right shoulder is the insignia emblem of his squadron — the 965th. For Collins collectors, this is a. First Day Cover that adds a personal dimension to the cachet name. As he was growing up, Tim accompanied and assisted me on many of my stamp trips. Quite a few of our philatelic adventures are presented in my 1997 book. They provide great memories and detailed personal accounts as to how many of our covers came into existence. Also, numerous collectors have met Tim over the years at the annual conventions. We are very happy to honor our son for his service in the United States Air Force. He is the representative on our cachet meant to honor all military veterans who have served America so well in war and peace. I am pleased to present to you a cover produced with the sprit of the "Wild Blue Yonder" in mind — a cachet that pictures Timothy Patrick Collins but pays tribute to all who have served.
