Acactla National Park.

Located along the picturesque Maine coast, Acadia National Park is a haven for many forms of land and aquatic wildlife. Whale watching off the shore is a favorite pastime, and my hand painted cachet features one of these huge mammals in a graceful dive. A water spray from the rising tail creates a momentary ocean waterfall as the arching whale descends below the surface. In the background, the lovely coast rises in stark ruggedness, and it is crowned by the Acadia Lighthouse — framed by the clear Maine sky.

The park had its beginning in 1913 when President Woodrow Wilson designated 6,000 acres as the Sieur de Monts National Monument. More land was acquired, and in 1919 it became Lafayette National Park. In 1929 it received its permanent and present name of Acadia National Park. Fortyfive miles of gravel roads, closed to traffic, wind through the park allowing hikers, bicyclists, horseback riders, and carriages to enjoy the peaceful scenery.

Visitors in cars can enjoy a 27-mile drive called Park Loop Road. Finally, more than 120 miles of hiking trails are available to challenge all levels of ability.
