Soda Fountain Favorites

Egg Cream

Cover Announcement

This drink is made using milk, carbonated water, and chocolate syrup, and a number of my friends who grew up in New York City remember it as one of their soda fountain favorites. I don't think I've ever had one. Amazingly, the beverage contains neither eggs nor cream!

Most research on the egg cream points to its origin among Eastern European Jewish immigrants. One of the leadilg theories is that "egg" is a corrption of the Yiddish and German word "echt" meaning genuine or real. Since grade A milk was used to make the drink, it could have been described as "echt cream'' which in common usage became egg cream. Whatever the origin, it is indeed a soda fountain my favorite, and my individually hand painted cachets are now ready. Collins #Z5504 at $15.00.
