This is a very unusual and beautiful First Day Cover.

The hand-painted cachet truly captures the forceful image of Caruso the artist as he gives a performance.

This magnificent profile is superimposed over his audience in the opera house showing six tiers of spectators. The lavendars, blues and warm browns are just the right colors to blend the rendering of Caruso and his audience while tying in the hues of the stamp. This is the first time that a COLLINS FDC uses this almost ghostly method of superimposing. I've never seen another cover anywhere quite like this. It is very natural, very dignified, very different and....very lovely.

Each cover has two of the new stamps. One has the official cancel from New York City and the other has an unofficial from Tuxedo Park, New York. This is one of the finest COLLINS covers of the year. Item #E1201. $7.50
