William Cuthbert Faulkner - Novelist

Collins Cover Announcement

WILLIAM FAULKNER

This stamp was issued in Oxford, Mississippi, and after picking them up on the Day of Issue, it was on to a great unofficial town for a wonderful southern Faulkner type First Day cancel -- Cotton Plant, Arkansas.

William Faulkner wrote about townsfolk and rural folk, and I decided to portray a southern farm family whose roots are tied to the soil. The husband walks behind the mule-pulled plow. Half the field has been tilled, and half awaits the bite of the plow. Walking along side, the wife, clutching the hand of a young daughter, keeps her husband company under the hot southern sun. You will look at this hand-painted cachet over a split rail fence and the toiling mule is coming straight at you pulling the Faulkner family along behind.

This COLLINS puts it all together: a dramatic portrayal of Faulkner's southland; fancy style hand-painted lettering; and, a terrific good quality unofficial First Day cancel from the town of Cotton Plant. Item #Q1201. $7.50
