RED CLOUD

(Famous American Series)

Out of the frontier West comes this action-packed, hand-painted cachet done for the Sioux chief, Red Cloud. A war party of hostile Sioux, superb horsemen, thunders across the plains in full attack. The lead warrior, mounted on a galloping paint, brandishes an up-raised tomahawk while the brave trailing him notches an arrow to his bow. A full quiver slung on his back contains an ample supply of the feathered missiles.

Next comes a chief donning a full warbonnet of eagle feathers firing a recently captured rifle. A cartridge belt is draped across his bare chest and a scalping knife is sheathed at his waist. The fourth Sioux, mouth open with a war cry and face streaked with war paint, wears the sacred bull buffalo headdress with protruding horns. He carries both a painted shield and a long, featheradorned spear with sharpened point well outlined against the blue western sky. In the distance, silhouetted against the horizon, other mounted warriors ride into battle. This is an exciting, realistic cachet, and you will find it a fine addition to any collection.

Three of the ten-cent stamps are canceled Red Cloud, Nebraska with an excellent quality First Day postmark.

As an extra, final touch, I've added a mini-cachet, hand painted, by the stamps. It's a deadly looking war club and it complements the other weapons shown in the large cachet. Additionally, the stylized "Red Cloud" text is also hand painted to coordinate with the rose red color of the stamps. Truly a wonderful FDC collectible. Item #S1201 - $7.00
