Milk Wagon 1900s
Collins Cover Announcement
MILK WAGON - 1900'S
This is another stamp in the on-going Transportation Series and is a nice collectible. The hand-painted cachet shows an early horse-drawn milk wagon proceeding down a country lane. It is a nice rendition of this bit of Americana -- the coming of the milkman. Behind the wagon, a herd of dairy cows grazes in a field with a dairy building in the background. In addition to the main cachet, I've included a mini cachet of the ever familiar" milk can" which so many people use today for decorative purposes. (This is the same cachet technique I used with bread wagon/loaf of bread).
The Milk Wagon stamp was five cents, so I acquired the eighteencent America the Beautiful "For Amber Waves of Grain" Flag stamp to use with it. For use with the Milk Wagon stamp, the Grain stamp and the dairy and cows oriented cachet, I discovered a great unofficial First Day cancel. This cover is postmarked in rural and peaceful Farmland, Indiana. The cancel device was very old and is a slight oval. It is a good quality cancel and "Farmland" is just perfect for this cover.
This is a fine FTC and, compared to other covers this issue, the COLLINS has a good chance of being judged as "cream" of the crop. Item #Z1201 - $7.50
