Collins Cover Announcement

THIS IS A COLLINS EXCLUSIVE AND IT IS ONE OF THE MOST EXCITING OFFERINGS THAT I HAVE EVER MADE. IT IS A COVER SPECTACULAR!

DINOSAURS

This is the fifth and final cover of the COLLINS Dinosaur set. It is a fantastic "entire" hand-painted cover which features all four Dinosaur stamps. You should not miss the opportunity to add this COLLINS to your philatelic holdings.

The cachet is awesome. A brilliant full moon shines brightly in the blackness of the prehistoric night. Stalking the tropical jungle is one of the most fierce-looking of all dinosaurs -- the Triceratops. As it prowls the dark night, the three menacing horns protruding from its large head are silhouetted by the full moon. The total cachet effect is one that you will truly appreciate -- the jungle with its tropical growth of ferns, palms, and hyacinth-type blooms all painted to capture the night color tones; the black sky setting the visual backdrop for the dramatic scene; and, foremost, the enormous Triceratops dominating the intriguing cachet with his ominous, spear-like horns highlighted by the huge, illuminated moon.

Not to be over-shadowed by the outstanding cachet are the stamps and cancels. The Stegosaurus and Tyrannosaurus are officially canceled at Lake Buena Vista, Florida, home of the Disney Dinosaur exhibit in EPCOT Center. The Pteranodon and the Brontosaurus are unofficially canceled at Dinosaur, Colorado, home of the Dinosaur National Monument and Park. I was the only cachetmaker to travel to the town of Dinosaur on the First Day of Issue and, therefore, COLLINS First Day Covers are the only ones with the Dinosaur, Colorado cancel.

You can bank on the fact that this cover will become one of the more important bricks in the building of the COLLINS reputation. Believe it. All four Dinosaur stamps with the official Florida cancel and the Dinosaur, Colorado cancel obtained exclusively by COLLINS . The moonlit prehistoric hand-painted cachet with the intimidating Triceratops. A super FDC. Item #L1601 - $10 . 50 .

Spring 2021 Mail Sale Commentary

Lot 18 L1602 to L1605 — Dinosaurs (set of four) — 10/1/89

This lot is a dynamite set of four individual dinosaur covers and is one of the most exciting offerings in this sale. I'm as proud of the first day cancels on these super first day covers as any I've ever done. The stamps came out in Orlando, Florida, and we obtained them at midnight. They traveled on a night flight to Salt Lake City, Utah and then were driven east over the Wasatch Mountains to Northwest Colorado. There, just south of the Dinosaur National Monument Park, I was the one and only cachetmaker to obtain Dinosaur, Colorado first day postmarks on this popular issue. The cancels are clear and bold — fitting for these great creatures. The hand painted cachets on these four first day covers are excellent — the large Brontosaurus wading in a primeval swamp with tropical flowers in the foreground; the soaring Pteranodons flying high above a prehistoric ocean; the dragon-like Stegosaurus on a level plain with volcanoes erupting in the background; and the flesh-eating ferocious Tyrannosaurus stalking its next prey. Collecting first day covers doesn't get any better than this! It is a fact that the first day city was awarded to Orlando in deference to the dinosaur attraction at Disneyworld. In my opinion, they should have been issued in Dinosaur, Colorado where the large creatures roamed the earth. Only Collins covers have this amazing first day of issue postmark.
