Lot 6 S201 — Letter Writing — 2-25-80

This was an unusual issue format as there were a total of six new stamps — 3 large and 3 small. To achieve the positioning I wanted on the envelope, all the stamps had to be separated and then put on individually. A big job with lots of "licking and sticking." The large stamps are tied to the cover with a first day postmark. I then flew to Scranton and made my way to the smallest post office building I ever visited — La Plume, Pennsylvania. It was there that I secured an excellent first day cancel for the three small color-coordinated stamps. The hand painted cachet shows a feathered quill pen (la plume) and an inkwell. Photo and trip story on book page 205. Lots of bright colors and a super philatelic piece. When I produced this cover in February of 1980, I had been at it for less than two years.
