Migratory Bird

Fulvous Whistling Duck

Collins Cover Announcement

1986 MIGRATORY BIRD STAMP ($7.50)

FULVOUS WHISTLING DUCK

Once again it is time for the annual "Duck". As my long time regulars well know, this COLLINS is one of the premiere FDCs of the year -- not only for my collectors but within the hobby as a whole. Last year, many who delayed ordering were disappointed because my 85's sold out very quickly. And, once my "Ducks" are gone, to acquire them on the open market has meant paying a much higher price. The same thing (a quick sell out) could happen again this year, so please order promptly if you want this beautiful, highvalue nature cover.

A history of my cachets. 1981 -- a pair of Ruddy Ducks swimming in front of reeds. 1982 -- a pair of Canvasbacks coming in for a landing. 1983 -- a family of Pintails swimming through lily pads. 1984 -- A small flock of American Widgeon in a marsh. 1985 -- a woodcarver's workshop with Cinnamon Teal decoy. And...now comes 1986.

This year I wanted a different cachet design from any of the previous years. Different and dramatic. What you will receive this year is a large, finely detailed flying duck, and I emphasize large and detailed. The wing tips reach from top to bottom of the cover. From left to right the tip of the bill to the tip of the extended feet leaves just enough room for the stamps. The size is magnificent! Having such an ample area to work with, the detail is equally amazing. Feathers and body markings provide a vivid hand-painted rendition of this fowl, and if you enjoy nature, this cover is a must. The detail is wonderful. To add perspective, in the distance a smaller companion duck is also winging along.

In addition to the $7.50 "Duck" stamp, each cover has the Broadbill Decoy stamp. Both are canceled with the large Washington, D.C. bullseye.

Multiple orders will be taken subject to supply. If you do want one or more, please do not delay too long. Last year's "Duck"

(E1001) and "Decoys" (N901) sold out quickly. This cover is nature. It is a "Duck". It is high value. It is a large, detailed, watercolor cachet. It is a COLLINS. And...everyone should have the famous, fabulous, frivolous Fulvous Whistling Duck in their collection. Item #J1101. $20.00. (Not only is it famous, fabulous, frivolous and Fulvous, but it also could be your favorite.)

Winter 2021 Mail Sale Commentary

Lot 20 J1101 — 1986 Annual "Duck" Stamp First Day Cover

This was only the sixth Migratory and Bird Stamp ("Duck") first day cover that I produced. The subject species was the Fulvous Whistling Duck, and my hand painted cachet shows two of them air bound. On the one in the foreground, wingtips reach from top of the cachet to the bottom creating a very large and detailed image of this duck. A hand painted frame surrounds the whole envelope. The large stamp is placed at the lower left with a perfectly related duck decoy stamp above it to meet postage requirement. Both are tied to the cover with a large, clear official first day of issue postmark from Washington, D.C. Your chance at an early Collins "Duck."
