Great Americans

Dr. Bernard Revel - Orthodox Rabbi

Collins Cover Announcement

DR. BERNARD REVEL

(One Dollar High Value)

Famous American Series

Dr. Bernard Revel was the founder of Yeshiva University in New York City -- the Day of Issue city. This $1 stamp has a wonderful unofficial First Day cancellation of Bernardsville, N.J. After picking up the stamps at the main bustling city post office, it was across the Hudson River to the quiet suburban post office of Bernardsville. It is a good quality cancel with a nice "related" name association.

The hand-painted "entire" cachet shows two students studying the Torah. Dr. Revel sits nearby overseeing their progress. I am most pleased with the cachet/cancel combination for this COLLINS and highly recommend that you secure one for your collection. It cannot miss being a sought after item. It is in the Famous American series; it is a religious topical; it is a high-value stamp; and it is a COLLINS (only the second $1 stamp I've done in my ten year history and the first I've done with an individual $1 stamp). In my opinion, it's a must for any COLLINS collector. Item #Q1101 - $9.00

Summer 2025 Mail Sale Commentary

Lot 15 01101 — Dr. Bernard Revel — Founder of Yeshiva University —$1.00 High Value — 9/23/86

Dr. Bernard Revel was the founder of Yeshiva University in New York, New York — the day of issue city. After picking up the stamps at the New York City post office, these $1.00 high-value stamps were taken across the Hudson River to the quiet village post office of Bernardsville, New Jersey where they received a good-quality magenta unofficial cancel with a nice, related name association.

The hand painted "entire" cachet shows two students studying the Torah. Dr. Revel sits nearby overseeing their progress. I am most pleased with the cachet/cancel combination for this Collins as well as the fact it is a high-value stamp (only the second $1 stamp I had serviced up to that time).
