LOVE - 1986

This is the issue that has the little brown puppy dog looking out from the stamp -- I just couldn't resist putting this adorable, floppy-eared pooch in a pet store window. The result is FANTASTIC as the "stamp becomes part of the cachet" and I believe you will agree that this COLLINS has to be the finest of any produced for this issue. Joining the "LOVE - PUPPY" is a colorful menagerie of other prospective pets -- a white bunny, an inquisitive turtle, a squawking macaw, a playful pussy cat, a humanistic monkey, a rainbow parrot and another companion puppy. A young lad is leaning on the glass looking in and, despite the lively variety of diffetent pets, his gaze goes right to the floppy eared pup.

I am extremely happy to offer this hand-painted cover to you for your consideration -- it is a unique and different use of this stamp to create a really cute and colorful cover. Down the road as this FDC is illustrated in various publications and catalogs, I have no doubt that it will become one of my more sought after items. Don't miss adding this "pet store panorama" to your collection before it is sold out. I guarantee you will be delighted to own it.

My St. Francis cover was the "all-time first" in which a cachetmaker actually pioneered the use of the stamp as part of the cachet. The Crime Prevention McGruff was my second. Now, the 1986 Love Puppy, tied by the official New York City bullseye cancel, actually sits in the pet store window waiting for you to bring him home. The appeal of this cachet would make a cover collector of anyone. Item #X1001. $7.00

Lot 22 X1001 — Love — Pet Shop Cachet  (1-30-86)

This was an interesting cachet concept where I just wanted to simply create an imaginary pet shop where all different species would be on display together. I started with the new Puppy Dog stamp and got the New York City day of issue bullseye cancel. Then I added a monkey, a kitten, a turtle, a rabbit, and a parrot plus a couple of others. Then a boy surveying the would-be companions. It remains an idealistic composition which took the stamp and made it part of the cachet. Appealing and effective.
