CHRISTMAS - 1990 TRADITIONAL

A very brightly colored stained-glass window provides the subject matter for this hand-painted cachet. The three wisemen, astride their camels, travel over the desert dunes to the town of Bethlehem. In the distance, buildings of the quiet town nestle together beneath the blue night sky. A star burns brightly in the heavens above, guiding the wisemen to their destination. Vivid colors adorn the travelers and an angel above who trumpets their arrival. Around the whole scene, a scarlet red border provides just the right touch to pull the whole stained-glass effect together.

On the Day of Issue, the stamps were picked up in Washington, D.C. It was then up to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for a most appropriate First Day pictorial cancel. This postmark says "Bethlehem, PA - The Christmas City of the U.S.A." and depicts a similar scene to the cachet with wisemen and camels.
