FAMOUS OLYMPIANS
Eddie Eagan
This is a wonderful FDC with an attractive stamp, a great unofficial First Day cancel, a favorite topic (Sports/Olympics) and a fine hand-painted cachet.
The stamp features Eddie Eagan who competed in 1920 and 1932. He is the only American to win gold medals in both the summer and winter games. His sports were boxing and bobsledding. The large stamp which features Eagan in a boxing pose with a bobsled in the background, is tied by a great slogan postmark. After obtaining the stamps in Minneapolis, the covers were taken to Maple Grove. It was the current stop on an Olympic torch run of the state. The resulting unofficial (real) cancel is superb -- it says:
U. S. Olympic Festival - 90
Torch Run Station
July 6, 1990
Maple Grove, MN 55369
The hand-painted cachet depicts Eddie in the ring with a crowd of spectators looking on. The cachet design which includes painted border and torches will be used in the remaining four stamps in the set which will be offered in the near future.
This is a fine Olympic FDC and I'm pleased to offer it for your collection. Item #Q1704. $8.75
