Collins Cover Announcement

IDAHO STATEHOOD

This hand-painted cachet will take you to a white water river in pristine Idaho timber country as two highly paid log drivers known as "river pigs" work to prevent a jam. The huge floating timbers are on their swift journey to the sawmill where they will be converted into lumber. Peaveys, long poles with hooked metal points at the end, are the "tools of the trade" for these daring men. The peaveys are used to keep logs apart and to free snagged ones to prevent massive jams on the river.

This COLLINS captures with vigor the essence of Idaho's mood. Rugged and industrious individuals. The abundance of nature's raw materials. The beauty of the deep forests. The excitement of outdoor life. I really like the way this cachet came together. It is different from any other in your collection. You can almost feel the spray from the cascading logs and hear them thumping against each other as the current speeds them along.

As an important part of this FDC, I wanted to offer an unofficial (real) First Day postmark that would add a little human interest. I located a small post office at Horseshoe Bend, Idaho and it was here that these Centennial of Statehood covers received their Day of Issue cancel. What a wonderful name for a sweeping turn of a large, picturesque river -- Horseshoe Bend.

This excellent FDC will get your 1990 COLLINS collection off to a great start. The Idaho Mountain Bluebird Statehood stamp canceled on actual First Day of Issue at Horseshoe Bend, Idaho. The marvelous hand-painted cachet celebrates the self-reliant people and the bountiful forests. With this cover you can ride on half submerged logs together with two river pigs. (Watch out for those peaveys!) Something a little different for your COLLINS collection. Item #A1701 - $7.75.
