TWO COVERS IN "HARMONY"

PUPPY/KITTEN CHRISTMAS 

Harmony - "Coming together with an agreement of interests"

This was a fun cover to do with a nice subject matter - pets at Christmas time. I flew to Boston where I rented a car and drove to Danvers, Mass. where a pair of the 13 stamps was hand canceled "First Day of Issue". I had hoped to meet Ed Thompson whose daughter Tammy Lee has joined the cachetmakers ranks but we missed connections. After a quick lunch at "Friendly's" it was on the road again to Harmony, Rhode Island where a very nice unofficial was obtained on an additional pair. This town was chosen because the stamps and cachet show a kitten and puppy playing together in "harmony". The small p.o. is located in an old-time general store (now vacant) and the original customers' boxes are very old and ornate with original combination locks. The postmistress was very friendly and it was a quaint and interesting place. It was then on to Providence for the flight home.

The hand-painted cachet shows a kitten and puppy playing under the traditional tree. It is a nicely balanced, interesting FDC. Item B601 $5.50
