Lot 17 E501 — Hansom Cab — 3/26/82
This cover is from the Transportation Series. The term cab is derived from the French word cabriolet. The definition is "a light two-wheeled carriage, usually with a hood that folds, drawn by one horse." In recognition of the French background, I chose Paris, Tennessee as the unofficial cancel. A pair or the 10.9 cent stamps was hand canceled "First Day of Issue" at Chattanooga, the official city. Then, in order to make it to Paris in time, a small plane was chartered for the trip. Once there, a second pair was hand canceled with the nice, related unofficial.
