Lot 10 G501 — U.S./Netherlands (from Joint Countries Issue) — 4/20/82

This issue was created to commemorate our long-term friendly relations with the Netherlands. A Washington, D.C. First Day of Issue hand cancel was obtained on a single stamp. Then it was off to Holland, Pennsylvania where a superb, large bullseye unofficial hand cancel with killer bars was applied to an additional single. The cachet was designed to expand on the Dutch theme. A family in traditional dress is in the foreground, and behind them stretches a scene of farmed fields, buildings, and the ever-familiar windmill. Hand-painted in attractive colors, this cachet is eyecatching, and it is a very nice contrast to the subdued diagonal striped design of the stamp. This is a delightful Collins from the "Joint Countries Series."
