Collins Cover Announcement

LIBRARY OF CONGRESS

The cachet on this cover is very effectively done. Insteaa or tne usual border, the main design is that of an open book with the Library of Congress building superimposed on top of the open pages. The hand painting is done in a highlight fashion and really adds a nice dimension to the design.

Since the overwhelming majority of the publications and books housed at the Library of Congress are related to institutions of Higher Education via authors' academic credentials, reference use, research projects and the generally accepted linkage of universities and books of all descriptions and types, I chose College Park, Maryland as my second cancel. Accordingly, a single stamp is hand canceled "First Day of Issue" at Washington, D.C. and an additional single is unofficially hand canceled at College Park. This is a well conceived FDC with an imaginative hand painted cachet.
