OMNIBUS - 1830's

A team of horses strain in harness as the driver holds a whip at the ready. A conductor stands on the back steps of the rolling wagon. An assortment of passengers have paid their fares to John Stephenson Co. - operators of this early omnibus. The hand-painted cachet nortravs in miniature detail this 1880's transport as it travels over the dusty city streets.

A pair of the 1 Omnibus coil stamps and a U.S. flag stamp are machine canceled "First Day of Issue" at Arlington, Virginia. A nice cover in the Transportation Series. Item #C701 - $5.00
