CIVIL SERVICE

(1883 - 1933)

Early in the morning it was off on New York Air to the Capitol City. As the main Post Office I serviced a single a stamp with the First Day city cancel. Then it was back to the National Airport and a flight north...then a drive down the Turnpike to my unofficial city - Jobstown. Since Civil Service is synonymous with jobs I felt that Jobstown would be an excellent related  unofficial. It turned out great with a nice clear cancel with killer bars and a particularly nice feature is that the unofficial ties both stamps to the cover.

The hand-painted cachet has a postal service them. In the left background is a girl in old-fashioned garb mailing a letter at a “utility pole mailbox” -the type that was in extensive use. In the right foreground is a mailman of the 1900's holding an assortment of envelopes. The familiar COLLINS border - this one in crimson red - surrounds the cachet. Item #E701 - $5.50
