Handcar 1880s
Collins Cover Announcement
3c HANDCAR - 1880 's
This cover has a lot going for it, and I think you'll enjoy adding it to your collection. It is a continuation of the Transportation Series. The hand-painted cachet turned out extremely nice, and I believe you will really enjoy both the design and the color schene. An old-fashioned handcar is speeding down the track with two railroad men riding. There is a scenic background. As with the sold-out 2 Locomotive, this issue will be popular with railroad topical collectors.
For the duo cancels, I used the unusual format of two related unofficials which will help to make this cover a sought after item. As a pre-schooler in the early 40 s, my mom would often take me to pick up Dad after his shift at a local factory. While waiting, we watched the passenger and freight trains rumbling by. The main line was the "Erie-Lackawanna RR" which is well known throughout the East -- particularly New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. After picking up the stamps at the official city of Rochester, NY, it was off to the first unofficial of Erie, PA. There a pair of the 3c stamps plus an American Flag stamp were hand canceled. This cancel is very interesting and unusual as it features a large clear bullseye with eight wavy killer bars. I've not seen one like it before, and it's most attractive. The covers were then taken to Buffalo, NY where an additional pair plus another Flag stamp were hand canceled at the Lackawanna Branch. The completed covers put away, my tribute to the old Erie-Lackawanna was accomplished. The excellent cachet plus the two related unofficials make this FDC something special. Item #G601 - $5.65
