Collins Cover Announcement
POPE MOTORCYCLE
This 1913 motorcycle issue in the Transportation Series has an excellent related unofficial from Pope Valley, California. It ties a strip of four to the cover. This unofficial was possible only because of the wonderful cooperation of the Pope Valley Postmaster who made an extra effort on this Holiday First Day. An additional strip of four is officially canceled "First Day of Issue" at San Prancisco.
The hand-painted cachet details the cycle which in its time was an awesome machine. The background color is a two-tone green which comnlements the green of the stamps. There won't be many unofficials ''-vr this sterne thereby making the motorcycle COLLINS a good choice.

Lot 10 J701 — Pope Motorcycle — 10/10/83
This Transportation Series first day cover has a lot going for it. It was issued on a holiday when almost all post offices were closed. The wonderful cooperation of the Pope Valley, California postmaster, who opened that day to cancel these covers, makes this a very special item. Any unofficials are extremely rare, and to have a "Pope" postmark is PHENOMENAL. In addition to the strip of four canceled at Pope Valley, another strip of four is postmarked in San Francisco. This cover is a classic example of my determined quest for meaningful first day postmarks.
