This cover has a lot going for it. First it is an Olympic FDC and they are among the most popular of sports topicals. Second, the hand-painted cachet is a nice one showing two fencers dueling with foils. Finally, the unofficial cancel is just right for this issue.

A pair (Fencing and Cycling) is tied to the cover with a super pictorial unofficial from the Colorado SOCOPEX Station honoring in bold slogan print "National Sports Festival". The festival took on addea importance as the athletes prepared for the Games. Once again COLLINS Covers have achieved prominence for the issue by securing this wonderful sports hand cancel. The opposite pair (Volleyball and Pole Vaulting) has the "First Day of Issue" cancel from Colorado Springs.
