Martin Luther

German Priest, Theologian

Collins Cover Announcement

MARTIN LUTHERIN

This was a challenge to secure a meaningful unofficial because the First Day was on a holiday. Fortunately, I discovered that Martinsburg, West Virginia was a 24-hour facility, so it was a natural. I arrived to a relatively quiet city and quickly proceeded to purchase the new stamps. After finishing up at the main D.C. Post Office, it was off on my long drive to Martinsburg. The postal people there were among the most friendly I've met and soon the canceling on the last COLLINS cover of 1983 was completed. It is a good unofficial with killer bars.

The hand painted cachet depicts a young Luther in his early studies. A very effective use of a bright yellow background is used to contrast with the brownish/redish/rust of traditional robe. A most interesting COLLINS cover. Item #N701 - $5.50
