Collins Cover Announcement
THOMAS HOPKINS GALLAUDET
The unofficial cancel for this cover has special significance. After servicing the covers in the issuing state of Connecticut, they were flown to Washinaton, D.C. which is the home of Gallaudet College. This university, named after Thomas H. Gallaudet, is dedicated to Providing higher education opportunities for the hearing impaired.
By the campus on Kendall Green is a post office, and it is at this Kendall Green Station where mv covers received their unofficials.
It has to be one of the best for the issue. This cancel compliments the official hand cancel from West Hartford, CT. I would like to thank the New York City collector (A.H.) who suggested this excellent unofficial.
The hand-nainted cachet features a well known statue of Gallaudet shown giving guidance to a child. Considering the serious nature of the topic, the coloring format was kept basic and the statue was given a realistic bronze look. I think that this low profile cover with duo cancels including the excellent Kendall Green, is an appropriate remembrance for this great individual. Item #T601 - Price $5.50
