Collins Cover Announcement
1983 MIGRATORY BIRD
Immediate Response Requested
This is to announce the third annual COLLINS "Duck" that so many of you have been asking about. This year, a pair of pintails will join the ruddys of 1981 and canvasbacks of 1982. Once again, the migratory bird cover will feature the large, bold type of previous years and the cachet will once again be something special. This is becoming the annual challenge to better the previous cachet effort and last year's tanvasbacks in flight" will be tough to beat...but the 1983 design could he the best yet.
As in the past two years, I must request a deposit up front to cover the enormous postage costs ($7.50 for each duck stamp plus older related postage stamps) and if you want one or more I would like your deposit on or before June 22nd. You may send either a $10 deposit for each cover desired or, of course, the full payment of $20.
Each year a few more cachet-makers are doing migratory bird covers and I think you will see them grow very quickly in popularity. This one will be a beauty and I absolutely recommend that you add it now to your collection.
1983 MIGRATORYBIRD ("DUCK")
This year's cover has a teriffic wildlife cachet. A pair of pintail ducks -- drake and hen -- are swimming through a cluster of waterlillies in brilliant bloom. Trailing behind their parents are two downy ducklings. In the ripples caused by their passage, the reflection of each duck is mirrored in the water. The final touch is a red-winged blackbird perched above the passing family. This hand-painted, large cachet combined with the high value ($7.50) stamp is a cover worthy of any collection. If you have been on vacation or have not vet ordered this 1983 COLLINS duck FDC, do consider it soon. Also, if you might want an extra one. Price is $20.00, and if you acquire this cover now before sold out, I'm sure you will never regret it.
Autum 2019 Mail Sale Commentary
Lot 7 X601 — 1983 Federal Duck — 7/1/83
This was only the third "Duck" cover that I produced with the first being in 1981. The hand painted cachet features a pair of pintail ducks swimming amid flowering lily pads. Two young ducklings follow in their parents' wake. Overhead, a red-winged blackbird is perched on a branch. In addition to the 1983 Pintail Duck stamp, postage requirements are met by the beautiful red and blue Migratory Bird Treaty stamp and an American Trees stamp. All are tied to the envelope with a wonderful large bullseye July 1, 1983 first day of issue bullseye. Rarely does this scarce Collins Duck come up for sale.
