1996 Virginia

A chattering red squirrel, about one-half the size of its gray cousin, sits on a pine branch as a male hooded merganser swims below. The scene on this hand-painted cachet takes place on a tranquil lake in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

OnIy 150 covers were produced for this new $5.00 stamp. Serial numbers used were 11671, to 11820. The cancel is a nice one with killer bars from Winchester, Virginia.
