Delaware 1997
White-winged Scoter by Jeffrey Klinefelter
Fred's Anecdotal Note
1997 Delaware
A sandy seashore setting along the Atlantic coast provides the locale for this hand-painted Milford. A brazen chipmunk has wandered out onto the dunes and sits near a clump of sea grass. Nearby in a small tidal pool, a trio of White-Winged Scoters (two male and a female) swim unperturbed by the presence of their furry neighbor.
The $6.00 stamp features a pair of White-Winged Scoters flying over the surf. A somewhat unusual configuration of the First Day postmark from Dover is a dater type cancel with magenta outer ring and black ink date in the center.
