Northern Shoveler

Fred's Anecdotal Note

1998 FLORIDA

The Northern Shoveler nests near prairie waterholes or ponds. The male has a greenhead, and the female is dark brown. The wide, shovel-like bill has small structures around it for staining food. Their diet consists of small plant life and animals from the surface or bottom of the ponds. This hand painted cachet shows a male feeding on the surface.

Serial numbers used are 02318-01 to 02330-06.
