EDNA ST. VINCENT MILLAY

This hand-painted cachet is among the more attractive - it features a poetic and romantic setting of an old mill. Beautifully painted in rustic browns and complete with water wheel, the picturesque mill is placed in a colorful setting of emerald green trees, dark red flowers and striking blue water and sky. At the upper left is a small, oval portrait of Millay.

The two hand cancels are the Official First Day from Austerlitz, N.Y. and an unofficial from Mill River, Mass. This is a very nice cover. Item #G401 - $5.50

Summer 2023 Mail Sale Commentary 

Lot 14 G401 — Edna St. Vincent Millay — 7-10-81

This stamp, which featured an oval portrait of Edna and a waterwheel in the hand painted cachet, has the day of issue cancel from Austerlitz, New York. I then took the covers to Mill River, Massachusetts for a super bold cancel with killer bars. This is the first time this early Collins has appeared in one of my sales. A nice opportunity to secure it.
