Collins Cover Announcement
BABE DIDRIKSON ZAHARIAS
Babe was one of the greatest American athletes ever - excelling at basketball, track and golf. As a track star she won two Olympic Gold medals in 1932 (80 meter hurdles and javelin throw), and as a golfer she won numerous tournaments. The cachet captures her in three different action poses - one for each of the sports mentioned above. Handpainted in watercolors, the cachet compliments the color of the stamp so well that the over-all appearance of the FDC is very nice. A single stamp has the official "First Day of Issue" hand cancel from her birthplace - Beaumont, Texas. This is a great "related" unofficial cancel, and it was achieved with help from Lois Hamilton. After servicing in Pinehurst, the covers were flown to Lois in Texas. Only 468 of this COLLINS cover we produced and as such will certainly be in demand in future years. Both this cover and the Jones will be sought after not only by COLLINS collectors but by topical (sports) collectors as well. Item #J401 - $5.50

Babe was one of the greatest American athletes ever — excelling at basketball, track, and golf. As a track star she won two Olympic Gold Medals in 1932 (80-meter hurdles and javelin throw), and as a golfer she won numerous tournaments. The cachet captures Babe in three different action poses — one for each of the sports mentioned above. The hand-painted cachet complements the lavender color of the stamp so well that the overall appearance of the cover is very nice. A single stamp has the official first day of issue hand cancel from her birthplace — Beaumont, Texas. This is a great "related" unofficial cancel, and it was achieved with help from Lois Hamilton, who started "HAM" cachets approximately the same time as I began Collins. She and I became good friends. After servicing in Pinehurst, the covers were flown to Lois in Texas.
