Collins Cover Announcement 

CHRISTMAS - TOYS - 1931

The cachet on this cover will probably rate as your favorite of all of my Christmas covers to date. It shows a brick fireplace with a cheery blaze. On the mantle are greens, candles and clock. Hanging from it are four stuffed stockings. In front are the traditional favorites - rocking horse, sled, teddy bear, top and brightly wrapped package. This cover has a single stamp with a machine cancel from Christmas Valley, Oregon and no unofficial cancel. I made the mistake of trusting someone else with some of the travel arrangements with this one. Due to the remoteness of Christmas Valley, John Andrews contacted me to see if I wanted to share a chartered plane in and out. I agreed, and he took care of arrangements and called me back with names and time schedules. The night before I was to leave for Oregon, I called John just to confirm meeting time, and he informed me that he was going to Chicago instead and that his charter could not make it. I tried desparately to put something else together for a related unofficial but could not do so on such short notice only hours before I was to leave. I wish that John, who is a good friend, had called me about his change of plans - at least a lesson was learned and in the future I'll handle all of my own details as I've done in the past.

This is still a nice cover with a very appropriate hand painted cachet and belongs in your "COLLINS" collection. Item #Q401 - $4.95
