Lot 5 U401 — Mail Wagon — Transportation Series PNC (6 stamps on cover) — 12-15-81

This issue was for the bulk rate of 9.3-cents in the Transportation Series. Three of the stamps are hand canceled First Day of Issue at Shreveport, Louisiana. Moving the mail has, of course, contributed heavily to the development and growth of America's commerce. Accordingly, I chose for my unofficial cancel the town of Commerce, Texas, and three additional stamps are canceled there. The hand painted cachet depicts a horse-drawn mail wagon which is of a different design than the wagon shown on the stamps. The six stamps, two hand cancels, and large watercolored cachet all combine to make for a very interesting first day cover.
