Endurance, strength, and perserverance are but a few of the requirements for the rigorous and demanding sport of cross-country skiing. In this event the competitors travel long distances on difficult courses. They almost run up the many hills and then tuck-in and ski speedily down the corresponding inclines, there are many twists and turns on a typical cross country course increasing the degree of difficulty.

In this hand-painted cachet, it is the women's event and three hearty and colorfully attired Olympians from different nations are grouped together. They are straining on an up-hill portion of the course and each is acutely aware of the position of the other.

Form fitting uniforms, tassled hats, and rosy cheeks add a distinctly feminine flair to my cachet picture but do not be deceived. Each has been training long and hard for this moment and their bodies and mental drive have been hardened for this one great effort in the Olympic Games.

With snow covered evergreen trees providing the backdrop for the three colorful skiers, this Winter Games FDC is a nice addition to this COLLINS set.
