The male Goldeneye has an absolutely beautiful iridescent green head with shades of bluish green around a distinctive white spot at the base of the bill. A bright golden eye is like a sparkling jewel in an emerald setting. Its body is patterned with bold black and white feather designs. Not to be overshadowed by her mate, the female has a lovely reddish head with a more subdued golden eye that is slightly paler than the male's. Unlike the male, however, the female does have a rich yellow-gold ring around her bill near the tip. Viewed as a pair, the Goldeneyes make a superb sight, and close-ups of both splendid ducks will be the subject of this year's individually hand painted 2013 Collins "Duck" stamp First Day Cover.

Once again the cover will have the luge, pictorial First Day of Issue postmark that is especially designed just for this issue. My watercolored waterfowl cachets have won far more prestigious Planty Awards than any other cachetmaker including first place plaques for the last several years.
