An Arizona desert provides the southwest setting for an early steam carriage as its driver guides it between tall saguaro cactus along a rough roadway. The truck belongs to the Tucson Harness Company and no doubt is making deliveries to isolated ranches. The steam mechanism is mounted on the front of the vehicle and gears slowly propel the vintage truck on its heavy wooden wheels.

Along with a pair of the new coil stamps, the recent Grand Canyon stamp is also used to meet postal requirements. It also fits the Arizona theme, and the colors in the stamp and in the hand-painted cachet are all nicely complemented. A First Day bullseye ties all three stamps to the cover.
