Eagle & Shield

Collins Cover Announcement

EAGLE & SHIELD

Patriotic eagles are a favorite of mine and, from feedback I've received over the years, I'd say that they are also desired by many collectors. Well, this one is an absolute beauty. My hand-painted cachet which extends over the entire face of the cover has a magnificent bald eagle and the minute details are great. Note all of the feather detail and the subtle shading that can only be obtained by painting. This rendition is one of proudness and fierceness as he is perched on a large red, white, and blue shield with stars and stripes. One taloned foot clutches the golden arrows of national strength and the other holds the leafy olive branch of peace. Beneath the shield, a long banner is unfurled reading "E Pluribus unum". This is a crisp cover with wonderful color shades. The cachet is a personal favorite and I recommend it highly.

Also note the varied type styles that I chose for this design. Although not immediately noticed by the casual viewer, I'd like you to note how the four separate and distinct type styles all work together to achieve the final appearance of this cachet. Selection and placement of text is something I've devoted more thought to in 1992 to make my covers even better.

A strip of three stamps is postmarked with the Kansas City, Missouri First Day of Issue cancel. This COLLINS is a true piece of Americana and, if you were searching for a piece to illustrate to a friend what a First Day Cover is, this would be a good choice. It has class. Eagle and Shield. Item #Y1901. $9.75.

Lot 13 Y1901 — Eagle and Shield (PNC) — 12-13-91

Painted in colorful but tastefully subdued tones, this hand painted cachet projects a historic and patriotic perspective. A bald eagle perches on a red, white, and blue shield. Talons of one foot grip the arrows of war while the opposite ones grasp an olive branch of peace. A strip of three stamps adds a dash of color with the center stamp having a plate number. Patriotic and very nice sums it up.
