FISHING FLIES
"Jock Scott"
A cutthroat trout rises out of a mountain stream hoping to make a meal out of a low-flying insect. What makes this hand-painted cachet so interesting is the cross-section view of the trout. Half of the trout is viewed below the water level and the other half above the surface. Most striking are the red markings by the lower jaw that give this fish its name. Very beautiful indeed.
The cutthroat is found in western waters from Prince William Sound, Alaska to northern California. It is also found inland throughout the western U.S. and Canada. It is considered a worthy game fish because it is shy and wary as well as beautiful. You will enjoy the natural, rugged habitat that this cachet portrays and the close-up view of one of our loveliest trout species.
On the Day of Issue, this cover was actually driven through the fantastic Catskill trout fishing region from Cuddebackville to Port Jervis to Trout Creek, New York. It was here, in the quiet mountain hamlet of Trout Creek that an exceptional, related First Day postmark was obtained for the "Jock Scott" fly stamp. This is a marvelous First Day Cover -- a super hand-painted cachet featuring the strikingly handsome cutthroat trout and an incredible First Day cancel obtained on issue date from Trout Creek, New York. Don't miss it. Item #Y1803. Jock Scott Fishing Fly. $9.50.
