Jack Benny, by all accounts, was a kind and generous man. But...in his show business life, one of his main comic ploys was to emphasize his unwillingness to part with a dollar. He was tight. He was cheap. He was stingy. Frugal and pennypinching. Jack made a Scotchman look like a spend-thrift. In keeping with my Rose Bowl theme, my hand-painted cachet has Mr. Benny at the head of a long line of fans at the ticket booth. As the clerk explains that there are no fifty-cent tickets, Jack seems unmoved as he stands there with his customary stance of folded arms and his famous one word response to many situations -- "Well!" In the 20's and 30's, fur coats were the stylish wear at football games, and Jack is decked out in one here -- even though he is a decade or two late in his fashion taste. (Why should he spring for a new coat?) It is a cute scene done with a light-hearted touch.

"Mickey Mouse" Disneyland Station First Day pictorial showing everyone's favorite mouse punting the football. It's a great  First Day cancel for this issue that deals with laughter for Mickey has made countless millions smile and chuckle. And.. .1 believe that mine are the only covers to obtain this perfect postmark.
