COUNTRY MUSIC

Patsy Cline and Bob Wills

These are the final two COLLINS Covers that were made for the block of four Country Music stamps that were issued in Nashville, Tennessee with the First Day ceremony held during a performance of the Grand Ole Opry. Previously offered and still available at $10.75 each are Hank Williams (B2201) and the Carter Family (B2203).

Bob Wills developed a style of country music known as western swing. In fact, he was known as the "King of Texas Swing" and he gained national prominence and fame as a radio performer.

His compositions included "San Antonio Rose", "Faded Love", and "Spanish Two Step". He led his own band--the fabled Texas Playboys. In successive years he was named to the Country Music Hall of Fame (1968) and to the Cowboy Hall of Fame (1969).

My hand-painted cachet has a large portrayal of Texas (everything is big in the Lonestar State!) with a portrait of Wills incorporated into the border of the state. It is an unusual and unique look. Also pictured is a yellow rose (of Texas) in tribute to his beautiful song--"San Antonio Rose". Also, a large fiddle as he played this instrument to perfection. This cover not only honors country music but also is a fine western theme cachet that honors the man who developed the western swing music that today has made a dramatic resurgence in popularity.

Patsy Cline. Once you hear her you will understand her popularity. She possessed one of the most unforgettable singing voices of all time. At the height of her career in 1963 she was killed in a plane crash. At the time, she was by far the country's most popular female country star. Her style was unmatched and she topped both the country and pop music charts. Big hits included "Crazy", "I Fall to Pieces", and "Walking After Midnight".

The hand-painted cachet pictures Patsy at the WINC Radio microphone which was a country station in Nashville. Other top Cline hits such as "Sweet Dreams", "She's Got You", and "Faded Love" are highlighted in multi-colored stars in my cachet. Her unforgettable style changed country music forever.

This offering completes my COLLINS Country Music set. The incomparable Patsy Cline. Item B2202. The King of Texas Swing Bob Wills. Item #B2204. $10.75 each.
